What is tallow?
Tallow is a traditional skincare ingredient made from rendered beef fat. Rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, it closely matches the oils our skin naturally produces, making it deeply nourishing and gentle.

Is your tallow grass-fed or pasture-raised?
We proudly source our tallow from local farms. Most cattle in our area are pasture-raised and then grain-finished, which gives us a high-quality, nutrient-rich tallow while also supporting our local community.

Does tallow smell like beef?
Properly rendered tallow has little to no scent; however, this is an animal fat product, and depending on the cow from which the fat came, it can still have a very light, lingering smell. If you feel you might be sensitive to this, start with a tallow with pure essential oils.

Can people with sensitive skin use tallow?
Absolutely. Tallow is known for being gentle and soothing, making it a great option for sensitive or easily irritated skin, and it is even a great option for diaper rash cream.

How is tallow different from lard?
Tallow comes from beef fat, while lard comes from pork. Tallow is richer in skin-loving nutrients and has a different fatty acid profile that makes it especially suited for skincare.

Is tallow safe for babies and children?
Yes, our plain tallow balms, like Texas True and Baby Butter, are safe and nourishing for delicate baby and child skin.

Can tallow help with eczema, psoriasis, or acne?
While we can’t make medical claims, many people find incredible relief using tallow on dry, itchy, or problem skin thanks to its natural vitamins and fatty acids.

How long does tallow skincare last (shelf life), and how should I store it?
Tallow products typically last 12–18 months. Store them in a cool, dry place with the lid on tight for best freshness.

Does tallow need refrigeration?
No refrigeration is needed! Just keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat. If your tallow melts, pop it in the fridge and give it a good stir. The texture might not be exactly the same, but the product is just as potent and fabulous.
